About the event
Fayetteville, NC — A Yellow Beanie Project (Yellow Beanie) is excited to announce an upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein." This production redefines the timeless tale with a remarkable ensemble and original music and marks the launch of the Yellow Beanie Community Theatre Project. This initiative introduces new works by local talents at a pay-what-you-can ticket model, ensuring broader access to art for the residents of the Cape Fear region."Our goal is to create a safe performance space that welcomes all, transcending economic barriers through the power of creativity,” says Yellow Beanie founder Michael Curtis Houck.Leading the ensemble cast is local actress Deannah Robinson, celebrated for her role "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" and her direction of "Fairview" (Gilbert). Robinson takes on the challenging role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, central to the story's moral and philosophical exploration of nature.Supporting Robinson is a cast of local talents, including Dan Adams, Linda Flynn, Val Humphrey, Deë Jones, Traycie Kuhn, Jos Lacosse, Chris Walker, and Ayana Washington. These artists have made their mark on local stages, performing at Cape Fear Regional Theatre, Gilbert Theater, and Sweet Tea Shakespeare. Their dedication to "Frankenstein" upholds A Yellow Beanie Project's mission of nurturing creativity through collaboration.“Yellow Beanie’s “Frankenstein” is unique as it draws from an 1823 opera rather than the novel,” states Michael Curtis Houck. “This opera is incredibly melodramatic - every character has so much passion - and it was the first documented adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic, which introduced the iconic character "Igor."The production will also features 16 original songs by singer-songwriter Mia Sgambellone, under the musical direction of local musician and Cumberland County teacher, DeNesha McAllister."Collaboration is at our core,” Yellow Beanie board member Cerina Johnson states, “and this production exemplifies our commitment to uniting local talents. The blend of classic romantic storytelling, contemporary actors, and original music promises to make this 'Frankenstein' adaptation a true work of art."Seating reservations open online October 1, 2023. Yellow Beanie is still seeking annual sponsors who value new and innovative works, and interested parties should contact Michael Houck for additional details and perks.Performances are 9–18 November at The Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County in downtown Fayetteville located at 301 Hay Street Fayetteville, NC 28301.
