History Of The Public Art Initiative
In the late 2000’s, when the program was first created, it was a showcase of 2-3 pieces of public art displayed in Festival Park. In 2017, under the guidance of Eric Lindstrom (SfL+a Architects) and the Arts Council, the program returned, and was transformed into one of the most successful public art installations in North Carolina.
In the past six years, the Arts Council, with support from private donors, has invested over $225,000 into the public art program, culminating in over 70+ pieces of artwork and sculptures that have been on display, twelve of which have become permanent art pieces for the City of Fayetteville.
Among the hundreds of applications that were received, the most impactful and relevant art pieces were hand selected by the Public Art committee to be on display for the annual exhibition.
This annual showcase of Public Art of the Arts Council’s Board of Trustees and the City of Fayetteville is made possible due to the continual support of Fayetteville/Cumberland Parks & Recreation, contributing donors, and other community partners.
